Joesph R. Baker Funeral Home was established in 1923. Mr. Baker started his business on Central Avenue in Middletown, Ohio and then moved to the Manchester Avenue location in 1927. He was well known for his love of baseball and his friendliness to everyone he met.
His son, Joe Baker, joined his father in the business full time after serving in World War II. He was very involved in his community and continued to grow his father’s business. In 1990, wanting to retire, sold his funeral home to a long time friend, Dan M. Stevens.
Dan Stevens owned two other funeral homes, Thompson-Stevens in Mount Orb, OH and Kennedy-Stevens in Bethel, OH. These two location were started by his father. In January 1997, Mr. Stevens sold his three locations to Carriage Services. He remained as a consultant for many years before retiring.
